what is barre.
Barre is a blend of ballet, Pilates, stretching and sculpting exercises targeting the deep musculature of the body. We aim to work muscles to the point of fatigue by thoughtful repetition and layering of movements to gain impactful and lasting change.
It is a low impact full body workout employing use of the ballet barre, body weight and a variety of props to offer you an interesting, safe, fun and mentally challenging workout, that also focuses on the posture, balance and coordination. Barre is one of the most effective ways of recruiting the pelvic floor, optimising its synergy with the deep hip and core muscles and aligning this with the breath.
Barre has roots in the work of Lotte Berk, a German dancer and choreographer who developed the technique in the 1950s. She combined components of physiotherapy, ballet and yoga to create an effective low impact workout to aid recovery from a back injury.
In your physio led Barre sessions, you can feel safe exercising in the knowledge that any movement challenges you may be experiencing will be carefully considered. The technique lends itself beautifully to a wide array of clients ranging from pregnant bodies, beginners all the way through to athletes.
Expect to strengthen your body in a way that few other workouts can.
